Nutrition Counseling

Besides helping hospital patients with special nutrition needs, Great River Health's registered dietitian nutritionists offer outpatient appointments.

Nutrition Coaching

Nutrition coaching with a registered dietitian nutritionist provides the information you need to make changes in your eating habits for healthier eating and/or weight management.

Coaching includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Diabetic Meal Planning
  • Heart Healthy Diet
  • Pulmonary Health Diet
  • Gastrointestinal Disease management such as Diverticulosis or Diverticulitis
  • Weight Control (Lose, gain, or pre-assessment for gastric by-pass)
  • Reduced Sodium Diet
  • Renal Diet
  • Gluten Restricted Diet
  • Healthy Balanced Eating (Youth through Adult)

Appointments are in Wellness Plaza, 1401 W. Agency Rd., West Burlington. To make an appointment, please call Health Fitness at 319-768-4191 or ask your primary care physician for a referral.

Medical Nutrition Therapy

Medical nutrition therapy is a nutrition-based treatment provided by a registered dietitian nutritionist. It includes assessing the person’s nutritional status and providing counseling with recommended foods and nutrients to treat and manage diseases including:

  • Cancer
  • Celiac disease
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • High cholesterol
  • High blood pressure
  • Prenatal nutrition
  • Malnutrition
  • Tube feedings
  • Weight management (intensive)

These services may be covered by insurance with an order from a healthcare provider. Appointments are in Wellness Plaza, 1401 W. Agency Rd., West Burlington.
