Anesthesia

Who We Are

The Anesthesia Department is dedicated to providing excellent customer service, high quality care and is committed to patient safety. Each patient receives personalized, compassionate care to meet their individual needs.

CRNA’s are advanced practice nurses with highly specialized graduate-level education in anesthesia and pain management. In the state of Iowa, nurse anesthetists are licensed independent anesthesia providers. CRNA’s are the sole providers of anesthesia in nearly 100 percent of the rural hospitals in Iowa. For more than 100 years, CRNA’s have worked in every setting in which anesthesia is delivered, from the simplest to the most complex of surgical cases.

What We Do

CRNA’s provide anesthesia and pain management services in departments throughout the health center. In particular, CRNA’s are an instrumental part of the surgery team at HCHC. Before surgery, patients are interviewed by the CRNA to determine the appropriate choice of anesthesia based on the procedure, medical history, and patient preference. Many types of anesthesia are available to meet individual patient needs. Nurse anesthetists provide patients with the comfort of knowing that the CRNA will be by the patient’s side monitoring their vital signs and adjusting their anesthetics to ensure a pain free and safe anesthesia experience.
