Walk-in clinic vs emergency room
Emergency departments handle life-threatening emergencies, while walk-in clinics do not. Walk-in clinics are suitable for sudden health conditions when you can’t wait for an appointment or when other clinics are closed. See how to choose what type of care you need.
Our Walk-In Clinic is available for the care of non-emergency conditions like allergies and infections, abrasions and bruises, colds and flu, and sprains and pains. It offers extended hours for your convenience. If you are experiencing life-threatening symptoms, please go immediately to the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center Emergency Department or call 911.
If you're unsure about where to go for medical care, take a moment to review our symptom lists below. This clinic does not provide care for chronic conditions. We have on-site laboratory and X-ray services.
- Allergic reactions
- Cuts, burns, bites
- Eye irritation
- Infections
- Moderate fever
- Painful urination
- Rashes
- Runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, cough
- Sprains, strains, broken bones
- Vomiting and diarrhea
- Sexually transmitted disease suspected exposure
Patients must be at least 6 months old. Women who are pregnant should seek help from their obstetrician or nurse midwife. Urgent care providers don’t prescribe or refill pain medicine or long-term medicine. A provider at a primary care clinic or an emergency department may need to see you if you have several or complex health concerns.
Billing
Walk-In Clinic - Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center is a hospital-based outpatient clinic.
- There are two charges for health care services:
- Physician services
- Hospital services
Your care will be billed as an office visit, not urgent care. We encourage you to call your insurance provider to understand your health plan's coverage. Depending on your insurance benefits, this may result in higher out-of-pocket expenses. You will be responsible for the amount required by your insurance plan at the time of your visit.
