A higher level of care for our sickest patients

The Intensive Care Unit, also known as the critical care unit, is for our patients with severe, life-threatening illnesses or injuries. This is the highest level of care provided at Great River Health.

Our ICU medical staff have advanced training in critical care, providing lifesaving, compassionate healthcare. Using sophisticated medical equipment, their goal is to support and sustain patients’ lives. The rooms are set up to allow for continuous observation and easy access to the patients.

Admission

A patient may be admitted directly to the ICU by the healthcare providers in the Emergency Department, or from another unit of one of our hospitals if their health quickly gets worse.
