Adult Inpatient Behavioral Health Units are located on our Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center, Fort Madison, and West Burlington campuses. Our cross-functional team provides mental health care for adult patients aged 18 and over.
If you or someone you know is experiencing a medical or psychiatric emergency, please go to your local emergency department or call 911.
Services
Similar to how hospitalists serve other inpatient areas, our Behavioral Health Unit features dedicated inpatient psychiatrists. These providers offer comprehensive support, helping patients and families manage symptoms through medication, therapy, and other effective approaches to help renew social, physical, and mental well-being
They will develop a personalized treatment plan for each patient. It includes group therapy, individual counseling, medication, and other activities.
We offer safe, pleasant accommodations in one of our twelve private rooms on the Fort Madison campus and the eight private rooms on the West Burlington campus.

Admission
Patients must present to their nearest Emergency Department for a comprehensive evaluation by our Behavioral Health Assessment Team for admittance. They will identify and treat medical conditions that may be contributing to psychiatric symptoms. If the patient is found to be medically stable and appropriate for admission to the unit, they will be placed in the appropriate facility for the level of care needed.
