Four members of Great River Health’ Board of Directors completed
the Iowa Hospital Association (IHA) Board Certification Program in April.
Bob Engberg, Bill Malcom and Bob McCulley earned certification, and board
Chair Dan Wiedemeier renewed his certification.
The association launched its Board Certification Program in 2010, and more
than 150 trustees have completed certification. Through this program,
IHA provides a framework to support Iowa hospitals in developing highly-effective
board members. Its goals include:
- Demonstrating to community stakeholders that Iowa hospitals are dedicated
to accountability and transparency, and are governed at the highest level
of excellence
- Helping hospitals use governance best practices
- Promoting the coordination of care and the best use of resources
“In this time of significant change and uncertainty in health care,
every hospital needs engaged and informed board members to function as
an integral part of the hospital leadership team,” said Mark Richardson,
president and CEO, Great River Health. “In achieving board
certification, these four board members have invested their time and effort
to help ensure Great River Health continues to provide the highest
quality health care to the patients and families of southeast Iowa.”
The Iowa Hospital Association is a voluntary membership organization representing
hospital and health system interests to business, government and consumer
audiences. All of Iowa’s 118 community hospitals are IHA members.
