Great River Health employees donated nearly $80,000 to the community
in 2015 through workplace contributions and fundraisers. That includes
$50,000 pledged to Burlington/West Burlington Area United Way.
The annual employee food drive in the fall raised $15,834.96. Money was
raised through a golf tournament, raffle drawing, an online auction and
contributions from individuals, the health system and businesses.
The money provided more than 300 $50 food vouchers distributed by:
- Henderson County, Illinois, Food Cellar
- Kayla’s Cupboard
- Louisa County Food Pantry
- Salvation Army
- Southeast Iowa Community Action
- YMCA Domestic Violence Shelter
Throughout the year, employees paid $2 to wear jeans to work on designated
Fridays. Donations totaled $13,751, which was given to a variety of organizations
including the Burlington Homeless Shelter, Southeast Iowa Humane Society,
Hope Haven Area Development Center, Medication Assistance Program and
Young House Family Services.
Nearly $1,200 was donated in two casual days for the Burlington Community
School District and West Burlington Independent School District. The money
will be used this year to fulfill student needs through school nurses
or social workers. Employees also donated hats, mittens and other winter
gear to the schools.
The health system continued its holiday-giving tradition in other ways,
too. Departments and clinics that adopted families were:
- Acute Care Center

- Great River Addiction Services
- Great River Mental Health
