Gluten sensitivity and celiac disease topics of April 28 program

Michael AbouAssaly, M.D., will discuss gluten sensitivity and celiac disease at 5:30 p.m.Thursday, April 28. The third program in the new 10-month Red Hot Mamas series will be in the Blackhawk Room on the lower level of Great River Wellness Plaza, 1401 W. Agency Road, West Burlington.

Dr. AbouAssaly is a family physician at Great River Family Practice Clinic, and he leads Great River Healthy Living Clinic.

When people with celiac disease eat foods containing gluten, their immune system forms antibodies that attack the intestinal lining. Symptoms include abdominal pain, bloating, brain fog, constipation, diarrhea, eczema, fatigue, irritability and joint pain.
