Certified application counselors will help people sign up for insurance
through the Healthcare Marketplace from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec.
12, in Great River Medical Center’s lobby, 1221 S. Gear Ave., West
Burlington. The annual open-enrollment period for applying for health
insurance or making changes closes Jan. 15.
The Health Insurance Marketplace helps consumers find health coverage that
fits their budgets and meets their needs.It also provides help with signing
up for Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
Every insurance plan in the Marketplace offers essential health benefits,
including:
- Physician visits
- Preventive care
- Hospitalization
- Prescriptions
Health insurance companies can’t deny coverage or charge more for
preexisting health conditions, and they can’t charge men and women
different premiums.
Certified application counselors from Great River Health and Community
Health Centers of Southeastern Iowa will be available to enroll Iowa and
Illinois residents. Please bring these items for all family members to
be enrolled:
- Birth dates
- Pay stubs, W-2 forms or “Wage and Tax Statements”
- Policy numbers for health insurance you or your family could get from your jobs
- Social Security numbers (or document numbers for legal immigrants)
Great River Health is a Champion of Coverage Organization and a
Certified Application Counselor Organization by the Centers for Medicare
and Medicaid Services. It also is a Presumptive Medicaid Organization.
Certified application counselors at Great River Health are available
by appointment between 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays to help Iowans enroll
