Community Health Needs Assessment

Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center has a tradition of working with people in southeast Iowa to determine and meet the needs of our communities. To enhance quality of care, the 2010 Federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act established a requirement that all nonprofit hospitals complete a community health needs assessment every three years.

To do this, Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center and local Public Health Departments worked together to identify the communities greatest unmet health care needs. Methods include doing face-to-face interviews, reviewing relevant data and providing surveys. The health system uses the research results to create its response to the identified needs, increase access to care and improve the health of people living in Des Moines and Lee Counties and its entire service area.
